Ontario is bracing for a blast of winter weather this week, with forecasters warning of significant snowfall across the north and lake-effect squalls set to hammer southern regions as November draws to a close.

By Thursday, a release of Arctic air will funnel across the Great Lakes Basin, dropping temperatures and fueling strong winds of 60–80 km/h. Those gusts are expected to push lake-effect snow squalls into the snowbelts downwind of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay, with forecasters warning that even the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) could see bursts of heavy snow

Prime Minister Mark Carney is being peppered by the Opposition Conservatives over a dismissive remark he made Sunday at the G-20 summit in South Africa.

When asked by a reporter when he last spoke with U-S President Donald Trump, Carney responded "Who cares?" -- and went on to say he has "no burning issue" to raise and that Canada will return to trade talks when America signals it's ready.

Tory Leader Pierre Poilievre accused Carney of ignoring workers hurt by U-S tariffs.

The Ontario government is set to table legislation today that would require people accused of a crime and granted bail to provide a cash security deposit up front, rather than paying later if they break their bail conditions.

Attorney General Doug Downey says he believes the move would improve bail compliance.

But the Canadian Civil Liberties Association is criticizing the measure, saying the proposal would create two tiers of justice based on wealth.(2)

Meta has been lobbying Ottawa for new rules to implement age verification at the app store level.

That would put the burden of identifying underage users on companies like Apple and Google, and not on individual platforms like Meta’s Facebook and Instagram.

The idea is that app stores would have to send a signal to app developers indicating whether users are older or younger than 18.

Rachel Curran, director of public policy for Meta Canada, says other jurisdictions, including more than 20 U.S. states, have proposed or brought in legislation targeting app stores.

Last week, a coalition of child advocates and medical organizations said the dangers children face online constitute a national emergency.
