John Travolta’s iconic white suit from the 1977 movie “Saturday Night Fever” was auctioned off for $260,000. The suit, a three-piece outfit with flared trousers, was worn by the actor as he danced to the Bee Gees’ “More Than a Woman” with his co-star, Stephanie Mangano, in a disco dance competition. Although the suit was not worn during the movie’s legendary solo dance scene to “Night Fever,” it was featured in most of the movie’s promotional images, including posters, video covers, and the soundtrack LP.  The suit was one of three purchased from the men’s fashion store Leading Male in Brooklyn, New York, by the film’s costume director. Two of the suits were worn on set by Travolta, with the store’s label embroidered on the inside of the jacket removed so it would not be visible on screen. The third suit was used for promotional photography.  The suit was later given as a birthday present by Don Williams, the then-president of Paramount Pictures, to his close friend Brian Wasserman in 1981. Wasserman sold the suit to American lawyer Brad Teplitsky last year, who arranged to meet with Travolta to confirm its authenticity. The suit was sold by Julien’s Auctions in Los Angeles.
