On Thursday, August 10th, Netflix’s limited series Painkiller will debut, starring Matthew Broderick and Uzo Aduba. The series presents a fictionalized account of incidents that “examines some of the origins and consequences of the opioid crisis in America, focusing on the lives of the perpetrators, victims, and truth-seekers whose lives are irrevocably altered by the invention of OxyContin.” The show probes “crime, accountability, and the systems that have repeatedly failed hundreds of thousands of Americans.” Broderick portrays Richard Sackler, heir to the Sackler family’s vast wealth and a senior executive at Purdue Pharma, while Aduba (Orange Is the New Black) plays Edie, a lead investigator on the Purdue case. The cast also includes Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights), Dina Shihabi (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan), and West Duchovny (Saint X) in significant roles.
