Violence in Mexico has left Canadian travelers wondering what's next. Violence erupted near the popular resort city of Puerto Vallarta after a Mexican army raid killed a cartel leader. It prompted roadblocks, car fires, shootouts, and airport closures. Canadian travelers described having to take cover and being told by officials to shelter in place. Airlines have canceled or diverted dozens of flights. Canadian airports, meanwhile, warning travelers boarding the U.S. to allow for extra time to get through customs. Nexus and Global Entry pre-clearance programs for travelers to the U.S. are suspended. Some more time will be needed to pass through security checks. The suspension is due to the partial shutdown of the U.S. government over an apparent congressional stalemate on legislation to fund the Department of Homeland Security. Ontario's police watchdog investigating after a police-involved shooting near Paisley killed a 48-year-old. According to reports, the incident followed a day-long series of apparent crimes on Saturday, including car thefts and break-ins. Police eventually located the man driving a stolen vehicle. They deployed a tire deflation device and when the vehicle left the road, the man fled on foot. He was later found outside a home. An officer discharged A firearm striking the man. Lite 99-3 sports, a collective sigh could be heard across the country as Canada's men's hockey team lost the gold medal game yesterday at the Olympics, 2-1 in overtime to the U.S. to win silver. Canada's men's curling team took home the gold while the women won bronze. The Milano-Cortina Olympics wrapped up yesterday with a colorful closing ceremony in Verona, Italy. Canada finished 8th in the medal standings, bringing home 21 medals, including five gold. It was the first time since 94 that Canada placed outside the top five at a Winter Olympics. Norway led all countries with 41 medals, 18 gold, followed by the U.S. and Italy to round out the top three. NBA yesterday, the Raptors beat Milwaukee 122-94. They host Oklahoma City tomorrow, 7.30. And baseball spring training got underway this weekend. The Jays won their first game of the preseason against the Phillies, but lost to the Red Sox yesterday, 11-10. They faced the Mets this afternoon at 1.
