A report on the prospect of the Collingwood Downtown BIA expanding its borders and tax base will come before counselors today for the first time. The Collingwood Downtown BIA was originally formed in 1977. An expansion was undertaken in 2004 to add commercial growth. In 2016, another expansion took place to add the former Shipyards property. In a previous interview, the calling with BIA's general manager explained that the BIA requested the expansion this year to align the BIA's boundaries with the area identified in the town's 2024 official plan as Downtown Commercial Core. Billionaire Canadian businessman Frank Stronach goes on trial before a judge in Toronto this week as the first of two cases accusing him of decades of sexual offenses begins. The founder and former head of auto parts giant Magna International faces a dozen charges involving 7 female complainants alleging assaults spanning the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Peel Regional Police charged Tronic in 2024 with a total of 18 offenses, but the case was later split in two. He has denied all allegations against him. Thousands of protesters took to Sankofa Square in Toronto on Sunday to show support for the Iranian people as deadly anti-government protests grip the Middle Eastern country. The protesters demanded the fall of the Islamic regime and some called for Western intervention as the Iranian government violently cracks down on demonstrations within the country. Widespread protests began in Iran in late December, sparked by an ongoing economic crisis that has sent the country's currency into free fall. And comedy legend Catherine O'Hara has been fondly remembered by the Southern Ontario community where the Toronto native spent long days shooting the CBC sitcom Schitt's Creek. Goodwood, Ontario was a key set location in the hit series and local business owner Jamie Leonard says the show changed his tiny community forever. He said as the show grew in popularity, so too did the local economy and the number of visits from fans as far away as Scotland and Australia. In sports, Toronto Raptors forward Scotty Barnes was named as an NBA All-Star Reserve Yesterday, the 24-year-old was named one of the seven reserves from the Eastern Conference. Barnes became the 6th player in franchise history to earn multiple All-Star selections, joining Chris Bosh, Vince Carter, DeMar DeRozan, Kyle Lowry, and Pascal Siakam.
