It's Monday, March 9th. Good morning. Welcome back from the weekend. A slight chance of showers, then sunny, windy, and 12 this afternoon. The dollar trading this morning, 73.87 cents US. I'm Stacey Englehart. While the time change might have you feeling a bit tired this morning, be careful if you are driving. The spring thaw and rain this weekend might have also had you cleaning water out of your basement. Record-breaking Warm temperatures this weekend wreaked havoc, not just in people's basements, but also on the roads. Now one of the warmest places was St. Catharines. They had a record high, 20.3 degrees, but one of the wettest was Wyerton, more than 40 millimeters of rain. Environment Canada said sections of Bruce Road 7 were reportedly washed out. 23 people back on dry land, they were stranded on a chunk of ice that floated about 2 kilometers from shore north of Owen Sound. Greg Bruce OPP said the group was on the ice that separated, pushed by wind and water current. Two OPP helicopters flew the group to Cobble Beach Golf Course that briefly opened to bring the people to safety. Besides mild hypothermia, everyone is okay. Police are reminding residents the ice is unstable and unsafe. While surging oil prices from the war Iran have sent overseas markets tumbling in trading this morning, Crude prices have spiked to the highest level in 14 years. It was trading at almost $103 a barrel this morning as the war hinders crude exports from the Persian Gulf. Over the weekend, Canadians arriving home from the Middle East expressed frustration with the war and evacuations. Hundreds more are expected to fly out of the region in the coming days after the federal government block booked hundreds of seats for outgoing flights. and three by-elections happening April 13th in Canada. The Prime Minister said the votes will be cast in two Toronto area ridings and a Quebec riding. Light 99-3 sports. Only one Canadian team played. Edmonton beat Vegas. Leafs lost on the weekend, now riding A7 game losing streak. Earn Montreal tomorrow at 7. PWHL Toronto lost to Minnesota in overtime 3-2. In the NBA, the Raptors beat Dallas 122-92. They're in Houston. Houston tomorrow at 8. Major League Soccer, Toronto FC beat Cincinnati 1-0. They host the Red Bulls on Saturday. Baseball preseason Blue Jays split squad games against Baltimore and Detroit. They won both games, 1-0 and 5-0. And at the World Baseball Classic, Canada lost to Panama 4-3.
