Good Thursday morning, December 4th. We're under a snow squall warning. The dollar 71.58 cents U.S. I'm Stacey Engelhart. Well, we're not quite winter yet, but it certainly feels like we're stuck in the thick of it. Environment Canada continued their snow squall warning into this evening. Persistent snow squalls with significantly reduced visibility because of heavy blowing snow. Along Lake Huron, snow squalls could bring 30 to 50 centimeters. You're being warned to prepare for quickly deteriorating travel conditions and disruption to transportation and power. Non-essential travel and outdoor activities should be avoided. And while we'll see cold temperatures and a bit of snow, it's going to be balmy compared to what the Maritimes are going through. Icy cold weather sweeping into parts of Atlantic Canada after yesterday's nor'easter. The wind chill in New Brunswick today could feel as cold as minus 33. Meaford will not see a return of the business improvement area after council voted unanimously against it. According to the Independent, a staff report presented to council during their December 1st meeting, noted there was little interest from downtown businesses and property owners to bring back the BIA. It was dissolved in November 2022 after having operated since 1978. Ontario's Education Minister will appoint advisors to review the province's approach to standardized testing because he said the results are not showing enough improvement. Results from last year showed about two-thirds of grade 3 students met the math standard, about half of grade 6 students, and about 58% of grade 9 students. Paul Calandra said those scores aren't high enough and he'll name two people to the advisory board next year for a comprehensive review. and just what we need in the face of the sky-high price of everything. A new report forecasts food prices will rise 4 to 6 percent next year. It's being blamed on trade disruptions and climate change.
