More and more Canadian children appear to be living in poverty, with about 1.4 million affected. Campaign 2000 said roughly 30,000 children fell below the poverty line in 2023. marking the third consecutive annual increase of the child poverty rate. The report found single-parent families face the worst hardships. Nearly half are living in poverty. Advocates say the findings highlight the need for stronger government support to help families afford basic necessities. In A narrow vote, Meaford Council has decided to dissolve the Pump Storage Advisory Committee, PSAC. According to the Meaford Independent, the 4-3 vote came after the deputy mayor introduced a motion during council's meeting February 23rd, calling for disbanding the committee, saying the advisory committee was no longer needed. As Prime Minister Carney prepares to leave today for a 10-day trade mission to India, Japan and Australia, the opposition leader will wade into some international trade issues himself. Pierre Poilievre is sent to give a speech laying out his conservative party's vision for the Canada-U.S. relationship. Yesterday, the Prime Minister signed a new defense agreement with South Korea. It creates rules for sharing and safeguarding classified military information. Canada is sending $8 million in food aid to Cuba as the country faces severe shortages caused by fuel disruptions. The funding will be delivered through international organizations. Officials say the humanitarian situation is only getting worse because the transportation is affecting food supply and essential services. Light 99, three sports. The NHL returned from the Olympic break. And the Maple Leafs lost to Tampa Bay 4-2. Elsewhere, Winnipeg beat Vancouver in overtime. Edmonton lost to Anaheim. The Leafs are in Florida again tonight. They'll take on the Panthers at 7. In the OHL last night, Owen Sound lost to Oshawa 3-2 in overtime. The Raptors lost to San Antonio 110, 107. They'll be in Washington Saturday at 7. The Blue Jays tied with a Detroit split squad team 4-4. They face the Marlins this afternoon at one. And the Toronto Blue Jays and Max Scherzer have agreed to a one-year deal worth $3 million, according to multiple reports.
