Ottawa is set to unveil a new national automotive strategy today, scrapping the electric vehicle sales mandate and replacing it with European-style emission standards. The plan also brings back consumer EV rebates and includes a $1.5 billion fund for charging infrastructure. The move comes after Prime Minister Mark Carney paused the mandate during the trade fight with the U.S., with automakers pushing for a full reset. A new Angus Reid report says half of Canadians now struggle to find or access a family doctor. up sharply from 40% a decade ago. One in eight have been searching for more than a year and have given up entirely. Even with more doctors per capita, demand is outpacing capacity, and Canadians report major hurdles getting tests, specialists, and even emergency care. Seven in 10 say health care in their province has worsened over the past decade. Grey County is seeing major progress in the opioid crisis. Opioid-related deaths dropped 72% last year. Overdoses fell more than 60%, outpaced facing the provincial trend. Officials credit a coordinated seven-day-per-week outreach system that brings health care, counseling, harm reduction tools, and addiction treatment directly to people who need it. More than 40 residents are now receiving long-acting medication that helps prevent poisoning and stabilize recovery. Leaders say collaboration is saving lives, and the work continues. Collingwood's new water treatment plant has hit a rocky delay, literally. Crews are eight months behind after drill heads kept breaking on the solid bedrock along Georgian Bay. The project's still on budget, though some contingency cache was used to dispose of contaminated soil and buried debris. Despite the setback, officials say water supply won't be affected and an interim boost in capacity is still expected this spring. Just days after he was released by the Argos, move fills a big hole for Hamilton after Devin Varasuk left for the NFL.
