Good morning, it's Tuesday, February 10. Cloudy with a chance of flurries today. Hi, minus one, I'm Daniel Coulombe. President Trump is now threatening to block the opening of the new Gordie Howe International Bridge. He posted that Canada isn't treating the U.S. with fairness and respect, pointing to booze rules in Ontario, dairy tariffs and complaints about Prime Minister Mark Carney. The bridge is Canadian financed and nearly ready. Michigan's governor says it's opening one way or another. The span is going to link Detroit and Windsor and handle thousands of daily commuters. Collingwood is ditching its on-demand weekend bus service and bringing back the regular crosstown route. Council voted unanimously after ridership dropped nearly 50% under the book-ahead system. Staff say riders just never made the switch, and the fixed schedule is more reliable. The change won't cost extra, but still needs final approval at the February 23 council meeting. More Simcoe County towns are turning to a municipal accommodation tax to boost revenue. Osaga Beach brings its 4% tax in April, joining Midland, Collingwood, Orillia, and Barrie, where the rate is 6%. The fee applies to hotel and short-term stays under 30 days, and at least half of the money goes straight into local tourism, marketing, and infrastructure. Meaford is pausing online pre-authorized payment forms as they switch to a new website this summer. Current PAP users don't need to do anything. Your info is but new sign-ups have to apply by mail or in person at the municipal office. The town says a secure online option will return once the new site goes live.
