Good Tuesday morning, January 20th. Flurries and snow squalls and really cold temperatures again today. The dollar 72.34 cents U.S. I'm Stacey Englehart. Well, there's no more blizzard warning. Now it's a snow squall warning. Environment Canada issued another weather advisory. Now we're expecting an additional 10 to 15 centimeters by this afternoon, although snow is expected to continue over Bruce Peninsula. Strong winds upwards of 60 kilometers will cause blowing snow and hazardous driving conditions. Gray Bruce OPP have charged two people in connection with telecommunication wire thefts that have affected several OPP detachments across southwestern Ontario. Police accused the suspects of cutting poles, removing the wire and stripping it for copper before selling it to scrap yards. January 7th, Gray Bruce OPP received a report of a suspicious vehicle north of Wyerton. Officers attended discovered a utility pole had been partially cut. Later that same day, officers were called about a vehicle stuck on Highway 6 in Chatsworth. Police determined those inside the vehicle were responsible for the earlier damage to the pole. 26-year-old Mitchell Gorman of Chatsworth and 35-year-old Selina Smith of Milton facing several charges. A residential fire at an apartment complex yesterday is being investigated as suspicious. Police were called yesterday morning at 7 to a third floor apartment in Penetanguishene. When apartments suffered extensive damage, there were no injuries. Prime Minister Carney is in Switzerland at the World Economic Forum today. He's expected to give a speech and take part in various meetings. He'll also later meet with the French president, who is chairing the G7 this year. The Ontario Liberal Caucus has named John Frazier as their pick for an interim leader, a role he's poised to hold for a third time. He represented the riding south of Ottawa since 2013 and also served as interim leader in 2018 and again in 2020. Inflation is up even higher than expected. According to StatsCan, it rose to 2.4% in December. A break in last year's tax holiday was to blame, along with a surge in transportation costs. Airfare prices jumped almost 35% month over month. Light 99-3 Sports. Not a great night for Canadian teams in the NHL. They all lost. Leafs were doubled by Minnesota 6-3. Winnipeg lost to Chicago. Calgary lost to New Jersey and OT. Vancouver lost to the Islanders. Leafs host Detroit tomorrow at 7. PWHL tonight. Toronto is in Seattle at 10. And in the NBA, the Raptors are in Golden State also at 10.
