Friends star Matthew Perry has died at the age of 54 after drowning in his jacuzzi at home.  The actor was found on Saturday at a home in Los Angeles after first responders were called to the scene for a cardiac arrest.   Sources said he was found in a jacuzzi at the home but that no drugs were discovered at the scene – and there was no indication of foul play.  Authorities responded to his home around 4 p.m. where he was discovered unresponsive.  In his last post to his Instagram, shared early last week, Perry shared images of him in his pool, saying: “Oh, so warm water swirling around makes you feel good? I’m Mattman.”  Perry has been candid publicly about his problems with drugs and alcohol, after first going to rehab in 1997 for what was said to a pain medication addiction after a jet skiing accident.   Following this initial stint, he then went to rehab again in 2001 and 2011. He told an interviewer in 2016 that he doesn’t remember filming three seasons of Friends.

GWYNETH PALTROW PAYS TRIBUTE TO HER EX MATTHEW PERRY

On Instagram, Gwyneth Paltrow wrote about the moment she shared with ex Matthew Perry as she joined the many celebs in paying tribute to the star following his death.  Paltrow recalled kissing him in a field of long grass during a “magical summer” they shared shortly before he catapulted to fame on Friends.   “I met Matthew Perry in 1993 at the Williamstown Theater Festival in Massachusetts,” she recalled.  “We were both there for most of the summer doing plays.”  Paltrow remembered him as “so funny and so sweet and so much fun to be with,” as she intimated their relationship was more than friendly.  “We drove out to swim in creeks, had beers in the local college bar, kissed in a field of long grass,” she revealed, adding, “It was a magical summer.”  Paltrow wrote: “We stayed friends for a while until we drifted apart, but I was always happy to see him when I did.  I am super sad today, as so many of us are. I hope Matthew is at peace at long last. I really do.”

HOW MATTHEW PERRY SAID HE WANTED TO BE REMEMBERED

Matthew Perry didn’t want to be remembered first for his role in Friends but for how he supported others who also experienced substance abuse.   “Best thing about me – bar none – is if somebody comes up to me and says, ‘I can’t stop drinking, can you help me?’  I can say yes and follow up and do it, that’s the best thing,” Perry said in a resurfaced video on X.  “And I’ve said this for a long time, when I die, I don’t want Friends to be the first thing that’s mentioned.” He added: “I want that to be the first thing that’s mentioned, and I’m going to live the rest of my life proving that.”
